spent most of my saturday morning nursing a huge mug of mocha at jittery joe's with carlos, michael and the french professor. saw all of carlos' camino pictures from this summer. the pictures of the pyrennes and finnistere were gorgeous. amazing. i can't wait to go back my senior year. but, until then, i can't wait to go to madrid in jan. carlos thinks that at the end of the semester michael and i should be volunteer hospitaleros on the camino for a week. something to think about. for half of spring break, michael wants to do a 7-day cruise to naples, greece, and rome.

i had a green-themed trip to walmart. the packaging for my tampons and wall hooks was green and i bought the dvd of teenage mutant ninja turtles II. i was excited. but i had a hard time choosing bc in the family section they had the apple dumpling gang, escape from witch mountain, return to witch mountain, batteries not included, willow, old yeller, swiss family robinson... the selection was endless. and those movies are the very ones which shaped mine and tim's childhood. if you watch those, you'll probably gain some insight to my youth. so there's a project for you. but i decided on the turtles because i think maybe keno (the pizza boy) was one of my first hollywood crushes (aside from atreyu in the neverending story).
just got back from a mexican dinner and a viewing of once upon a time in mexico in greenwood. it's theme night! steph joined us for dinner, but left with justin afterward. so, i was left alone with the guys, what a shame. the movie was ridiculous. apparently, from what the guys say, it's supposed to be a sequel to desperado or something, which i haven't even seen. well, mexico was extremely ridiculous and illogical and wacko. and it was very entertaining. not to mention that johnny depp gave his usually fantastic performance. man he's awesome. am i right or am i right?

speaking of johnny's...

the man in black died today. pretty crazy considering he recently put out an album and all...

jittery joes is the first thing on the docket tomorrow.

this goes out to all my kc homeslices - "it's the freakin weekend, baby, i'm about to have me some fun..."
..or i'm about to have me some fun workin...

shwhat i need to do this weekend:

- overdose on love medicine
- read a midsummer night's dream acts i-iii
- espanol practicas a y b
- focus paper
- sociology crap (maybe)
- finish necklace
- get some sleep

ok...that's it till i think of somecrap else.

the doctor's appointment was super-fun today. if super-fun means no fun whatsoever. they had to inject some dye into my veins so that my x-rays would show up. super-fun. thankfully, i don't have to go back till next may, but there's other crap that i gotta do before then that i won't force you to listen to. no fun. i mean, super-fun.

but i hear we won our soccer game. really no thanks to me this time. i didn't make it back to campus till 8:20, and rushed right over to bible study (which went well, thank you). our team's undefeated, man. sweet.

this weekend's pretty open activity-wise...meaning i'm taking no suggestions because i'll have zero time. actually, chrl is coming down here tomorrow for a few hours. that should be fun times, eating in moffatt and all. and i plan on going to jittery joes saturday morning, after i get some good sleep time in.

man, it's time to get these shakespeare questions done.

September 10, 2003

um, something's seriously wrong with blogger. the edit box is really small and there's a bunch of blank space on the post screen. mysterious.

well, i ache. but it's a good kind of hurt. two nights of soccer games and a game tonight, couples with step aerobics earlier this everning. and we won again, not really much thanks to me...i'm just happy to be on the team because it's good times. and man am i tired.

gotta work on the dr little paper i've been whining about, finish spanish, and do the sociology sheet. fun night ahead of me, and it's only 9:30. yeah baby.

i gotta improve at pool again so if and when i play people, i'm not utterly humiliated.

my roommate's at the taco bell with her boy, and i think i get a chicken quesadilla out of the deal. can't wait for that sucker to get here.

maybe we have something else to eat while i wait...

y ahora...una cancion...

"estoy gorda. como una persona gorda."

es todo.

but i have step aerobics at 5 so it's all good. lucas...when are you going to continue your fable? i'm sitting on the edge of my--

uf!

--i feel off of my seat. gotta watch out for that. anyhoo, today's been good and all. i should probably write most of the dr little paper tonight seeing as how i'm heading home tomorrow after classes. yay! and i've got some sociology and some spanish. and a soccer game (woohoo!) at 8. hoopa.

uf...sometimes my friends can be so gullible. guess i'll just have to exploit that...

today's been long but quite good. financial aid filled me in on what i need to know for spain. spent some quality reading on a swing. called carlos old in class. went to the meeting for the mirror, erskine's newspaper. i might start writing some for it. played some futbol (intelligent and surprisingly fast = 2-0). experienced the super sweet new indoor climbing wall. now, if only they'll let me belay...and now it might be time for a shower and some kettle corn as i settle at my desk to work on the dr little paper.

oh, and another piece of news...i miss sinfonia...never thought i'd see the day. still not sure if i wanna go back. i miss playing my flute in an orchestra...so i might bring the flauta back with me when i go home on thursday.

i am not going to the uncle doctor's show this friday, mostly due to the fact that i'm going home on thursday already, and i'm trying to save money for the other shows i'm interested in attending:

9/27 - need to breathe and florez - handlebar, greenville
10/3 - courage riley (final show), burns out bright, tba - new brookland tavern, columbia
10/17 - the working title (ep release), copeland, the young republicans - music farm, charleston
11/9 - something corporate, mae, days away - roxy theatre, atlanta

i definitely want to make it to the 10/3 and 11/9 show, but hopefully i'll make it to all of these. if anyone's interested in coming to any, give me a heads up. the more the merrier. unless i don't like you. then i'll lie and say i'm washing my hair that day instead.

shower time. or maybe it's time to do some crunches. wish i didn't have so much energy, because it's all going to be wasted on an essay man.

September 08, 2003

today's been a good day. i've been productive and everything. went to the library for a while. got an outline and introduction written for my dr little paper. read some more love medicine. watched the first half of henry iv part one. then the intelligent and surprisingly fast championed the partido de futbol. 1-0. bring it on. doing laundry and listening to courage riley's "the loudest" (download at mp3.com) now.

oh snap. i've got grammar work due to carlos in like 30 min.

"and we all know how i can't resist a shaggy-haired, scrawny guy behind a microphone wearing a tight thrift store tshirt and vintage-worn jeans strumming an accoustic guitar and screamo-crooning at the top of his poetic lungs."

...oh, but ben walker was much hotter than the afore-mentioned post suggests.

and now, kids, it's time for me to divulge about my weekend.

friday night was singer-songwriter night at the clinic (where the show was held) for the most part. i give major props to david adedokun. not only because he writes some truly gorgeous songs, but also because he wins for mvp. he sang his own stuff (just him and his guitar) on friday, saturday he played bass for ben walker radio, and he's the frontman for courage riley. talk about talented. he also plays left-handed. but he didn't have a left-handed guitar or bass. he just flipped a regular guitar around and learned to play that way. sweet. another singer-songwriter on friday was niles ferguson. he was great on the guitar and used loops well, but his lyrics aren't great and he was off-key at times. but i must also give him props because it was his first time playing his own stuff in front of people.

saturday i hung out at the girls' apartment. we were really lazy and it was fabulous. they cooked brunch and then we watched center stage.

saturday night the volume at the clinic was cranked up, as was the energy. the lineup was benburnsjazz, ben walker radio, tigerbot hesh, 1984, and courage riley (and a couple others that we didn't stay for). my picks, out of those 5 were, um,...pretty much all ecept for benburnsjazz. but my favorites were ben walker radio, courage riley, and 1984, i think. 1984 sounded like they had some influence from the strokes, so, naturally, i enjoyed them. oh, and their drummer was phenomenal. i mean, when you can't take your eyes off the drummer because of his energy and ability... i mean, this guy was talented. and the lead singer/guitarist was hilarious to watch. he's one of those who doesn't care what anyone thinks. and courage riley's just great. i was already loving david adedokun from the previous night, and then i got to hear him sing again. and all the guys in the band are christians and quite open about it. and i just love ben walker radio.

needless to say, this weekend was quite a successful one. even if i didn't get back here till 3am this morning. and woke up to go to new covenant in anderson for the 9:30 service. by the way, loved the church, and i'll be going back.
